Voyage Baltimore: Conversations with Ben Hoffman

I was interviewed on Voyage Baltimore about my journey with cityHUNT. It was a great opportunity to reflect on the wild ride we’ve been on since we started.

Here’s a brief rundown of how the interview went and some of the key topics we covered during our chat.

The Beginning

We talked about how cityHUNT started in my NYU dorm room as a simple scavenger hunt pub crawl using polaroid cameras.

I shared how it eventually grew into the team building and urban adventure company we are today, now operating in 250+ cities.

The Challenges

The interviewer asked about the difficulties we’ve faced over the years.

I mentioned how starting the company literally the day before 9/11 was just the beginning of learning to adapt through major challenges like the financial crisis and COVID-19.

Our Mission

We discussed what makes cityHUNT different from other companies in our space.

I explained how we give back by using a portion of our proceeds to create scholarships for non-profits and schools because we believe no one should be shut out from “being more awesome together.”

The Pandemic

The conversation touched on how COVID completely changed our business model.

I shared how we developed our virtual platform in just weeks and how the pandemic actually reinforced our core mission of helping people deepen relationships with others.

Our Culture

I briefly talked about what drives us as a company.

I described our passion for infusing gamification, positive psychology, and mindfulness into everything we do, always with the goal of making people more awesome together.

Conclusion

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share our story with Voyage Baltimore – it was nice to take a moment and reflect on how far we’ve come. The conversation reminded me why we do what we do and how much we love helping people connect.
